This looks an interesting book and one which I’d not come across so thank you for posting this review and introducing it to me. If you like this, you might also enjoy naturalist Gerald Durrell’s semi-autobiographical book, My Family and Other Animals. It follows the humorous experiences he has with his family and local residents (animal and human) following his family’s move to Corfu when he was 10 years old. It’s aimed at an older audience but many younger readers have also enjoyed it and you might well find it funny as well as interesting.
