Bloxorz logic game
This is a fun blocks game you can play online: you need to be good at working out how to turn and move the blocks to get it to stay on the platform and get it into the right position to drop through the hole. I found it quite tricky! I expect you will be much better at it! Click on the image to have a go.

Maths challenges…
See if you can solve these maths challenges:
You can post a comment with a suggested answer and explanation if you like…
Challenge A: What is the value of x in this triangle?
Challenge B: Which of the following gives an answer that is a multiple of every integer (whole number) between 1 and 10 inclusive?
Can you say how you know?
A 23 x 34 B 34 x 45 C 45 x 56 D 56 x 67 E 67 x 78

Fractions matching game
This is a matching fractions game. You work through different levels to try to match images and fractions (and equivalent fractions). You’ll have to think but the time you get to level 6!

Fractions to decimals – online game
This game will give you practise in converting fractions to decimals. Try to do it without using the ‘fraculator’ (just type in the numbers you know). That way you will get through the game more quickly and practise your mental methods for converting fractions to decimals and collect ‘bio-rods’ to help defeat the Robots! Click on the image to start.

Primary Maths Challenge
If you are thinking about having a go at the Primary Maths Challenge, you may want to try out some of the questions and past papers on their site. They have an online paper you can try and some papers you can download. Even if you don’t fancy a go at the challenge, this is a good site to try out some ‘flexible maths thinking’ and enjoy some fun maths! Why not have a go?

Ordering fractions
We have been doing some good learning this week ordering fractions. One of the games we enjoyed was the laundry line game. If you want to have a go at it, you can play by clicking on the picture. When you get to the higher game levels, you will need to think about how to use equivalent fractions (by finding common denominators) to compare fractions. Have fun!

Angles in polygons
We’ve done some really good maths investigation work this week finding out about angles in polygons using what we know about the angles in a triangle. We have discovered an interesting pattern that the number of triangles in a polygon is 2 less than its number of sides. We used this to find the sum of the angles in the polygon (e.g. a hexagon has 6 sides and 4 (= 6-2) triangles, so the sum of its angles is 4 x 180 degrees (= 720 degrees). If we had a regular hexagon, all six angles would be equal, so we could work out that they must be 720 divided by 6 = 120 degrees.
We enjoyed looking at the interactive polygon site and checking our ideas about angles in polygons. If you want to look at it, you will find it here.
Maths Homework for 30.9.15
This week we have been finding out about factors and multiples and then finding out more about prime numbers. We also investigated prime numbers and factors using ‘factors bugs’. You have two jobs to complete at home:
1. Using the blank 100 square you have been given, find the 25 prime numbers between 1 and 100 and shade them in neatly so that you can find them quickly. This grid will be stuck into the back of your maths book, so make it neat so that you can use it.
Remember prime numbers need to have just 2 factors (1 and itself). Think about finding multiples: e.g. the only even number which is a prime number is 2 (every other even number is a multiple of 2). Think through each times table. Which times tables will you need to check?
2. Choose two numbers and create a mathematically accurate and clear, but artistically decorated factor bug for each number. The best ones of these will be laminated and put on display in our classroom. (Remember factor bugs with tails have a factor that needs to be squared, legs show pairs of factors, and the antennae show the factors 1 and itself: prime number factor bugs will only have antennae).
I’m really looking forward to seeing your factor bugs!

Factors and multiples game
This is another good online game that will help you to practise factors and multiples. You have a 100 square and start by choosing a number less than 50. The idea is to try to make your opponent unable to go because they can’t find a factor or a multiple. What strategies are likely to win?
You could also try to play on your own and perhaps see how long a chain of factors and multiples you could make. What would be the numbers to avoid in this game?

Times tables game from Friday
Here’s the link to the ‘Hit the Button’ times tables game we tried on Friday. You can practise individual tables or mix them all up. You can choose from two games: either finding the answer to a question, or by working back to find the question from an answer…
