Homework 16.9.15
Write a poem using the title, ‘The Big City’
You can use ideas from our learning linked to ‘The Arrival’ or you may choose to use ideas of your own (e.g. feelings/smells/sounds you experienced yourself) in a visit to a new big city. The poem needs to be written in homework books and back in school for Tuesday, 22nd September,
If you want to, you could write another poem about anything you would like to. If this is in school by next Tuesday, I am happy to look at it and see whether it too could be considered for the Southam Lions Poetry competition.
Ordering numbers (including decimals)
This week we we have been looking at large whole numbers and numbers with decimals, practising ordering and rounding skills.
Remember ‘decimal places (d.p.)’ just tells you how many places there are to the right of the decimal point (e.g. 1 d.p. = tenths, 2 d.p. = hundredths or 3 d.p. thousandths).
If you want to practise ordering larger numbers and numbers including decimals, these games may help you.
Can anyone beat our class record so far of 18 points on the ‘Tricky Decimals’ ordering numbers game?

Drag the decimals (ordering game)
Ordering decimals (a range of different games including ordering whole numbers and numbers to 1, 2 or 3 decimal places).

Some of you will also remember having fun with this poem… here is a recording of it you might enjoy!

Britain in the Second World War
This term we are finding out lots about the Second World War in our topic work. We will be finding out why Britain went to war against Hitler and investigating some of the ways the war affected people’s lives. There are lots of interesting websites where you can find out more, so watch these pages for some different ideas to help you as we go through the term.
The BBC learning sites are often a good place to start:
BBC World War 2 for primary schools
